Ahmedabad: As Wednesday will see coinciding celebrations - of the second day of the Indian month of Ashadha and Ramzan Eid - city police made special preparations to oversee the 103 rath yatras and 46 minor shobha yatras in the state. The entire police machinery will be engaged in this massive exercise, which is the high point of policing during the year.

V M Pargi, ADGP (law and order), told media on Monday at Gandhinagar that from the DGP office, 26 officers of SP rank and above and 73 DSPs have been assigned major locations in the state for Rath Yatra, of which Ahmedabad alone will have 22 SPs and two IGP-level officers. A total of 144 companies of paramilitary forces and State Reserve Police will assist polic in maintaining law and order, he added. "Nine officers of DIG and IGP ranks have been assigned nine locations where major Rath Yatras take place, to oversee arrangements. Special attention is given to Ahmedabad, where the biggest Rath Yatra of the state takes place," said Pargi.
Apart from cameras at Shahpur and Dariapur, the state police installed 300 additional cameras covering the entire route. Of the total, 80 are high-resolution and those at Shahpur - where the procession reaches in the evening hours - will have night-vision. Moving cameras near the three chariots will have internet connectivity so officers can access their feed through IP addresses. Representatives of the DGP's office said that in all major cities, complete routes have been charted with Netra quadracopters of the state police, to identify obstacles and points from where the procession can be supervised to understand the traffic flow.
"This year, a company each of the SRP from Nagaland and Assam will participate in the Ahmedabad Rath Yatra. The initiative was taken to promote national police integration as suggested by PM Narendra Modi. Special control rooms have been set up at Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar to monitor the video feeds," said a senior state police official.
