Madurai: The Madurai bench of the Madras high court on Monday chided the CB-CID as well as the CBI in a case relating to a one-day-old baby which was stolen from Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai three years back.
The CB-CID which has been probing the case for over two years sought additional time to complete its investigation, to which the petitioner's side opposed and insisted CBI inquiry into the case.
However, the CBI counsel submitted that it was not possible for the agency to take up the case. This led the court to come down heavily on both the agencies. The court then granted four weeks to the CB-CID to complete the task and adjourned the case.
A boy born to Meenakshi Dinakaran on June 15, 2013 at GRH went missing the next day. The mother filed a petition before the high court bench in August, 2013.
On Monday, the CB-CID submitted a report before the bench and sought more time to complete the probe. However, the petitioner's counsel opposed the CB-CID's versions and said that the agency has failed to crack the case which occurred in 2013. Citing reports which appeared in vernacular newspapers about children being stolen in Tirunelveli for organ trafficking, the counsel then sought that the probe be shifted to the CBI.
