Hyderabad Hathway subscriber Shashidhar Anagany wins net speed plaint

The poor service of Hathway caused him irreparable loss and mental agony.

Hyderabad: Hyderabad District Consumer Redressal Forum-3 on Monday ordered Hathway Cable and Datacom Limited to pay compensation of Rs 10,000 to Mr Shashidhar Anagany from Vanasthalipuram for slow Internet speed.

The complainant had argued that his preparations for the civil services exam had been affected due to slow Internet speed which was far below the promised 50mbps.

The forum rejected Hathway stand that the complainant often downloaded 1,412 MB of data in a day and that cable cuts etc. were responsible for the slow speed.

Mr Anagany had taken a 2mbps broadband connection from Hathway in 2014. For three months, there were frequent interruptions and disconnections. Hathway asked him to take a 50mbps plan and he subscribed for the same.

He said that he was preparing for the civil services exam and was dependent on the Internet. The poor service of Hathway caused him irreparable loss and mental agony.

Hathway denied that the Internet service was not of the requisite speed. Logs revealed that the complainant downloaded data to the maximum limit of 1412.628 MB on any given day. It said the Internet speed was fine during the day but was slow during early mornings. The interruptions were due to cable cuts etc., but not due to the service provided by them.

The complainant, however, placed screen shots before the forum to prove that even later the Internet speed was slow.

The forum held Hathway liable for deficiency in service and apart from the compensation, it ordered payment of Rs 2000 towards costs.
