Actor and producer JD Majethia debuted as a host with his new show 'Khidki' recently. Jointly produced by Umesh Shukla, Aatish Kapadia and him, the new show on SAB TV is a weekly episodic series based real-life funny anecdotes sent by viewers. In a chat, the producer reveals why he chose to return to the small screen as a host:
Tell us about the concept of 'Khidki'.
Many comedy shows seem repetitive.
We wanted to do something original, so Umesh came up with the idea of inviting people to share their stories. We then decided to turn those real-life funny incidents into episodes for viewers.

How did you zero in on the title?
You can watch the outside world from a 'Khidki' (which means a window). By keeping that as the show name, we wanted to convey to viewers that the show is a window to real-life events, emotions and situations that occur in people’s lives every day.
The show launched last week. How has the response been?
Tremendous. We have received 12,000 entries from people so far. We wanted to recreate the times when viewers enjoyed watching shows like
Malgudi Days and Wagle Ki Duniya. We hope that our show establishes a similar connect.

Has it been easy to shortlist stories, anchor and produce the show?
As a producer, this has been the most challenging task for me. The show never looks the same as we try new get-ups, dialects and backdrops. It takes time for people to get familiar with a new setting every time. And as a host, I am enjoying playing different characters.
'Khidki' airs Monday to Friday at 9.30 pm on SAB TV.
