New Delhi: Five people were arrested for robbing Rs 43 lakh from a cash collector of a garments company in Gandhi Nagar. The man had been waylaid on June 26, beaten up and robbed. The company was owned by Deepak Gambhir, father of cricketer Gautam Gambhir.
The robbers—Mohammad Tahseem, Gulzar, Kalicharan, Mohammad Mazid and Mohammad Naim—had fled to UP after the incident and bought an i10 with the money (the cash bag contained Rs 6 lakh cash and Rs 37 lakh in demand drafts).

The victim, Shyam Mohan Tiwari, had lodged a complaint with the Gandhi Nagar police station in which he had said that he had collected the money from another garment firm and attacked.
“CCTV footage was analysed and technical surveillance mounted on the suspects,” said DCP (east) Rishi Pal.
Police learnt about some of the robbers meeting at Khajoori Khas. Five men were arrested in a raid at Shri Ram Colony but one got away.
During interrogation, Kalicharan said he worked as a salesman in the same area and knew about Tiwari coming for collection on Sundays and passed on the information to his associates.
