Liberman will appoint Yair Shamir as Israel Aerospace chairman and Yitzhak Aharonovich as IMI Systems chairman.

Minister of Defense Avigdor Liberman has decided to appoint Yair Shamir as Israel Aerospace Industries Ltd. (IAI) (TASE: ARSP.B1) chairman and former Minister of Public Security Yitzhak Aharonovich as Israel Military Industries Ltd. (IMI Systems) chairman.

Shamir was formerly IAI CEO, as well as a Yisrael Beytenu Knesset member and minister of agriculture. Aharonovich as was also a member of the Knesset on behalf of Liberman's party Yisrael Beytenu.

Liberman states that Shamir and Aharonovich are most suitable for these positions and will help their companies move forward.

IMI and IAI are state-run defense companies whose chairmen are appointed by the minister of defense, in coordination with the finance minister. The Ministry of Defense stated today (Monday) that the appointments were made in full agreement with Finance Minister Moshe Kahlon.

Shamir is expected to replace Rafi Maor, who announced he will complete his term of office as IAI chairman. Liberman recently cancelled the appointment of Brig. Gen. (res.) Uri Agmon to the position of IMI chairman. Agmon was appointed by former Minister of Defense Moshe (Bogie) Ya'alon and was to replace former IMI chairman, Maj. Gen. (res.) Udi Adam, who had been appointed by the Ministry of Defense director-general.
