Iker Casillas seems to squash claims of rift with Vicente del Bosque

Iker Casillas appears to have played down any supposed rift between him and Vicente del Bosque after posting a photograph on social media of the two posing together while wishing the outgoing Spain boss good luck.

Del Bosque said last week that his relationship with Casillas was ''so so'' during Euro 2016 and that the nation 's most capped player was upset with the Spain coaching staff.

However, Casillas, who captained La Roja to victory at the 2010 World Cup and Euro 2012 under Del Bosque but was consigned to bench duty in France, seems to bear the 65-year-old no ill will.

The Porto goalkeeper on Monday posted a picture of him and Del Bosque smiling together on his Twitter account with the comment: "This morning, in the Soccer City (Spanish Football Federation's headquarters). 25 years together and counting. A hug Boss! Good luck!"

Casillas' post on social media comes after Del Bosque caused a stir with his remarks about the long-serving goalkeeper last week.

Del Bosque, who has decided to retire from coaching when his Spain contract runs out at the end of July, sent most members of the current squad a message of thanks after announcing his departure in the wake of the team's last-16 exit to Italy at the Euros.

The one omission, Del Bosque admitted, was former Real Madrid goalkeeper Casillas, who sat on the bench throughout the tournament with David de Gea preferred as first choice.

Del Bosque told Spanish radio station Cadena SER last week: ''With his team-mates he has been fine, correct, but with the coaching staff it is so so.

''That is why the only player I did not send a message to has been Casillas.

''He feels bad with me, but also with [physical trainer] Javier Minano or [assistant coach] Toni Grande. With everyone else he has been fine. The anger has been with us.

''For sure he is hurting or displeased with me and I understand that. He thinks we have done the wrong thing.

"But we have to be proud of a player who has 167 games with the national team. I don't believe three or four games will hurt his resume.

''Casillas hasn't disappointed me. I have a great appreciation for him. I have known him since he was nine years old.''
