Kerala seeks MCI nod for Parippaly medical college

Kerala seeks MCI nod for Parippaly medical college
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state government has written to the Medical Council of India stating that the government is ready to make all facilities available for beginning MBBS course at the ESI medical college, Paripally from this academic year.
"The government has written to the MCI stating that we are ready to make the facilities ready if the MCI sanctions 100 MBBS seats for the Parippally medical college," said health minister K K Shylaja.

Although the previous government had mooted a proposal to create 108 posts for the medical college the government order was not issued. The cabinet meeting on Monday decided to create 108 posts of faculty for the new medical college.
"Till July 23 we have time to make the facilities ready. Almost 80% of the infrastructural works are complete. The remaining works will be completed on war footing," said the minister while speaking to reporters here.
The ESI Corporation had completed the basic infrastructural facilities and the total project cost was Rs 540 crore. Of which Rs 218 crore has to be spent. Even though several orders were issued by the previous UDF government while talking over the MCH, it has to be verified. The doctors who are already appointed by ESI have been given option to express their willingness to join the state government service.
At present the MCH is having 300 bed capacity which will have to be increased to 500 bed capacity. Facilities like library, equipment for the hospital and teaching, proper water supply, hostel facilities for students, etc have to be completed now, said the minister.

When asked whether the doctors who have already been posted in the new medical colleges of Thiruvananthapuram and Konni will be shifted to Paripally, the minister said that the government is exploring all the possibility. "It is a fact that the doctors of these two medical colleges are jobless now and hence they will have to be redeployed. Hence a final decision on this will be taken at appropriate time," said Shylaja.
On the future of the new medical colleges already set up by the previous UDF government without any proper facilities, the minister said that the government has decided to go for the MCI recognition only after the completing the necessary facilities.
