OUAGADOUGOU, July 4 (Xinhua) -- Burkina Faso public administration programmers will go on a two-week strike starting July 7 to demand better working and living conditions, their union leaders said over the weekend.

Some of their demands include "reintroduction of a special allowance for computer scientists that was withdrawn in 2014, increasing of their special allowance to 330 U.S. dollars and promotion of programmers in the public sector."

"The government has been dragging its feet since a sit-in by members of the Union for Information and Communication Technology Professionals," the union's secretary general Salfo Ilboudo said.

"The authorities assured us that they will put in place a team to address our concerns, but nothing has been done," Ilboudo said, adding that the work stoppage will definitely have negative consequences on the government's computer-based system.
