Knicks’, Nets’ longtime Rajon Rondo intrigue ends with whimper

Rajon Rondo once proclaimed his desire to play in New York, and that had Knicks fans drooling while Nets fans pointed to maps stressing how Brooklyn was part of the city. But after New York’s pro teams solved their respective point-guard dilemmas, Rondo will move on to Chicago.

Rondo has reached an agreement with the Bulls on a two-year, $28 million free-agency deal, as first reported by ESPN’s The Undefeated on Sunday. The Bulls will be Rondo’s fourth team since December 2014, when the Celtics traded him to Dallas. Rondo, 30, with career averages of 11.0 points and 8.7 assists, spent last season with the Kings.

So the Bulls filled their point-guard void created when they traded Derrick Rose to the Knicks. The Nets, who were linked by their interest in Rondo in numerous reports, reached an agreement with ex-Knick Jeremy Lin (three years, $36 million) on Friday when the free-agency talks began. Signings must wait until Thursday.
