Chandigarh: The Sarv Khap Jat Mahapanchayat on Sunday threatened to start their agitation while giving a 21-day deadline to the government to withdraw the cases made out against youths during the Jat reservation stir.
In a mahapanchayat convened by Dahiya Khap in Sisana village of Sonipat, the khap leaders resolved to convene another meeting on July 31 to decide upon the final course in case the government fails to meet the deadline.
Representatives of over 100 khaps of the Jat community attended the meeting.
HR Parkikar, national president of Rashtriya Jat Aarakshan Sabha, categorically said some Jat leaders have joined hands with the Khattar government, and have agreed to their terms and conditons for their selfish interests. "The struggle for Jat reservation is going to be a long process, and during the period, we have to make united efforts to overcome the legal hurdles and get reservation approved in Parliament. Some Jat leaders have defamed the community for their political interests. But we shall take this fight to its logical end," said Parikar.
Surender Dahiya, president of Dahiya Khap who convened the meeting, said: "This is the legitimate fight we have for the future of our youths. For the past four days, our boys are languishing in jails for no fault of theirs. A number of injured boys are still crying for better treatment. This will not be tolerated anymore,'' he said.
Besides withdrawal of cases against Jat youths, all those khap leaders who spoke on the occasion also sought action against Kurukshetra MP Raj Kumar Saini, financial assistance for those who suffered injuries and financial compensation for the kin of those who died during the agitation.
