Kolkata: A cyber crime team of Bidhannagar Police busted a racket in connection to ATM card fraud cases at Jamtara in Jharkhand. The group, which followed the vishing model, called up people and took vital information related to their debit and credit cards.
On Friday, a team of Bidhannagar cyber police conducted raids at different places in Jamtara. One person named Saddam Hossain was nabbed on Friday in connection to the case.
Hossain defrauded Shankar Bose of Rs 1.12 lakh. Sources said that Hossain would pose as a banker and ask for the card details and eventually would take the victim into confidence andextracted the necessary details. for making online purchases from him. Police has already identified several villages where youths are involved in vishing activities.
Police had already done a recce of the area in Jamtara where they identified several villages where youth is engaged in vishing activities. In most cases, the fraud amount is kept small to avoid complaints.
In another case, a victim was defrauded of Rs 55,000. Police have arrested Ram Vikas Turi, the person behind the fraud, from Jamtara. Police have managed to seize the devices used in both the cases, including passbook and ATM cards.
