Strict security for Jumatul Wida prayers

CCPO monitors arrangements at mosques, imambargahs and Ahmedi worship places

LAHORE: The city police arranged strict security for mosques, imambargahs on the occasion of Jumatul Wida prayers on Friday.

As many as 6,000 police officials were deployed at various mosques and imambargahs for security purposes. Imambargahs and mosques were divided into three categories in accordance with their safety profile.

The worshippers were frisked for weapons and explosives through metal detectors at the entrance and made to pass through walk-through gates. At 162 mosques and imambargahs, snipers were deployed at nearby buildings. Another 800 policemen performed monitoring duties in civilian clothes.

Streets and markets near mosques and imambargahs declared sensitive were patrolled by teams of Dolphin Force, Police Response Unit, Elite Force and Quick Response Force.

CCPO Amin Wains visited several mosques and imambargahs Ahmedi community worship places to review security arrangements. He monitored arrangements at Imambargah Baitul Hazan, Allama Iqbal Town and Masjid Gulzar-i-Madina, Wahdat Colony. He also visited an Ahmedi worship place in Garhi Shahu.  He held meetings with administrators to inquire about their reservations about security arrangements.

Speaking on the occasion, the CCPO said protection of life and property of all citizen would be ensured. He said the city police were using all available resources to maintain law and order during Ramazan. A special plan was prepared by the City Traffic Police to maintain flow of traffic during Juma prayer hours. As many as 1,930 wardens performed duties under the supervision of 40 patrolling officers, 106 inspectors, 12 DSPs and two SPs. CTO Tayyab Hafeez Cheema reviewed arrangements on Jail Road, The Mall, Gulberg’s Main Boulevard, Ferozpur Road, Anarkali, Liberty Market and Defence Housing Authority. He issued show cause notices to six wardens found shirking duties and announced cash prizes for four wardens on their good performance.

Rescue 1122 vehicles and ambulances were stationed at several important points in the city. District Emergency Officer Ahmad Raza reviewed arrangements.
