Kanpur: Alvida namaz was offered in various mosques of the city on Friday. People prayed for peace and prosperity of their family, society and the nation.
The largest congregation was witnessed at Jama Masjid in Patkapur area. The crowd of devotees had spilled over to adjacent roads and lanes. Areas like Nai Sadak, Parade, Yateem Khana, Chamanganj, Rupam, Beconganj, Faithfulganj, Sujatganj and others were packed with namazis.
The imam of the mosques urged the Muslims to show dedication and perseverance throughout the year and work for the welfare of the people.
They were also told about the importance of zakat (money given to poor ) and the duty of helping the poor and needy.
Maulana Manzoor Ahmed Majahiri delivered the religious discourse at Peeli Masjid and asked people to continue offering namaz and other good deeds even after Ramzan. Maulana Sami Qasmi addressed the gathering at Masjid Subedar and laid emphasis on good deeds. Prayers were also held at Chhoti Eidgah, Habiba mosque, Bargad Wali Masjid, Ghareeb Nawaz Masjid and numerous other mosques.
The city witnessed peaceful atmosphere during the namaz. The district administration had made appropriate arrangements to maintain peace and harmony. For the convenience of devotees, traffic was diverted. Alvida namaz was offered in more than 600 mosques in the city.
