Two run over by crane

July 02, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:33 am IST - NEW DELHI:

A 52-year-old woman and her son were run over by a crane that was towing away a truck in outer Delhi’s Mangolpuri on Thursday night. The driver of the crane is absconding.

Police said the accident took place around 8.30 p.m. when 26-year-old Tilak Raj, a blacksmith, and his mother, Vimla Rani, were on their way to Peeragarhi from their residence in Sultanpuri.

A police officer said that Raj’s two-wheeler rammed a crane coming from the opposite side. The crane ran over them even as it dragged their two-wheeler for a few meters. “While the woman died on the spot, Raj succumbed to his injuries during treatment,” he said.

As the area was crowded, the driver managed to flee. A case of causing death due to negligence under Section 304A of IPC has been filed. “We have identified the driver and raids are being conducted to nab him. CCTV footage is also being checked,” the officer said.

Raj is survived by his wife and two children.
