B.S. Yeddyurappa, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State unit president, has called upon the leaders of the party to sink their differences and strive to strengthen the party.
S. Rudre Gowda assumed charge as new president of BJP district unit at a programme in the city on Friday. Addressing the programme, Mr. Yeddyurappa said that differences among party leaders over minor issues would be resolved through talks.
Mr. Yeddyurappa said that he would tour the State for four days in a week to strengthen the party. Referring to the displeasure expressed by some leaders over the recent appointment of office bearers to State and district units of the party, he said that such developments were common in a political party. However, due measures would be taken to ensure that all party activists get ample opportunity to contribute towards strengthening the party.
Even those working at the grassroots level of the party would be taken into confidence, he said.
Mr. Yeddyurappa added that the party would field candidates for the forthcoming election for State Assembly after taking the opinion of party activists and the common people. The BJP would work out strategies to win atleast 150 seats in the Assembly election and thereby come back to power in the State. As part of the preparation for the election, the party would organise public rallies in each taluk after the conclusion of monsoon season, he said.
He said that apart from highlighting the failures of the Congress government in the State, BJP activists should also apprise the people on the achievements of BJP-led National Democratic Alliance government at the Centre. He also said that inflation was under control and India’s gross domestic product had recorded an impressive growth after BJP had come to power at the Centre.
Shikaripur MLA B.Y. Raghavendra, ex-minister H. Halappa, former MLAs Araga Jnanendra, K.G. Kumaraswamy and Belur Gopalakrishna were present.
