Doctors honoured

The Tamil Nadu Medical Council honoured six doctors for their exemplary service and distributed awards to them at a function on Friday evening. The awards were given away by State governor K. Rosaiah, said P. Balakrishnan, member of the Council.

M.A. Mohamed Thambi, who retired from Tirunelveli Medical College, got the best teacher award.

V. Alamelu from Tambaram received the award for best non-teaching government doctor under the directorate of medical services. Lakshminarayanan Janardhanan Poti from Tiruchi got the award for the best doctor in the private sector.

The other three awards went to A. Nagarajan for best doctor in the non-Corporation area and C.S. Palani for best doctor in primary health services in rural areas. Ramesh Ardhanari, senior surgical gastroenterologist from Madurai got a special recognition award. About 150 members of the council were present, Dr. Balakrishnan said. K. Senthil, Council president, J.A. Jayalal, vice-president and others participated. — Special Correspondent
