NIT plans smart kirana market in Kalamna
Nagpur: The Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) plans to set up a smart kirana market in Chikhli, Kalamna. The market will have WiFi, banks, restaurants, parking slots, computerized weighbridges, drinking water arrangements, public toilets, a garden, etc. The project is the brainchild of east Nagpur MLA Krishna Khopde and the instructions to the NIT in this regard were given by chief minister Devendra Fadnavis.

Khopde said that even though a large number of people from and outside the city visit Itwari kirana market, no proper facilities are available there. “As Itwari is a congested area with extremely narrow lanes, there is no parking place. The area also does not have basic amenities like drinking water, public toilets, etc. The Itwari traders, therefore, want to move to Kalamna,” he said.
The MLA further said that once the smart market becomes functional, he would appeal to the CM to start a single window system for traders where they can get all government-related works done. He further said that allotment of shops in the smart kirana market will be done by Itwari Kirana Merchants Association.
Khopde met NIT chairman Dipak Mhaisekar and chief engineer Sunil Gujjelwar on Friday afternoon and discussed the matter. Office-bearers of BJP Vyapari Aghadi and the Itwari Kirana Merchants Association were also present during the meeting.
