Pune: Citizens from all walks of life with civic officials participated in large numbers to make the tree plantation drive a thumping success on Friday.
Pushkar Kulkarni, a volunteer of Vasundhara Swachata Abhiyaan, worked with a team of 40 to guide more than 70 residents of Baner, Pashan and Sus to plant saplings on the nearby tekdis. "We managed to plant over 500 saplings of indigenous varieties such as banyan, peepal and neem," Kulkarni said, adding that each sapling must be recorded by the civic body.

Subhash Bhishikar, a resident of Bhosalenagar, said, "We planted 45 saplings along the Vamnicom Road. Around 50 residents of the area participated in the tree plantation drive, which will continue on every Sunday of the month." Ameya Jagtap, member of the civic body's tree authority, applauded the efforts taken by the citizens.
