Giant monitor lizard rescued by Wildlife SOS in Agra

AGRA: A 3 foot long monitor lizard was rescued by the Wildlife SOS Rapid Response Unit from a house in Govind Nagar, Saket Colony, Agra. The large lizard is currently under observation and will be released back to its natural habitat shortly, once deemed fit.
A call on the Wildlife SOS 24-hr helpline number (9917190666) from a resident of Govind Nagar, Agra reported a “giant lizard’ hiding amidst a pile of bricks inside his home.

The caller said, “I spotted a huge lizard like animal entering the room from under a pile of bricks. Fearing for the safety of my family, I immediately called Wildlife SOS to come rescue the lizard.”
Following the call, two members of the Wildlife SOS rapid response unit were immediately dispatched to the location and upon arrival identified the reptile to be a monitor lizard. The rescuers caught the lizard and safely transferred it in to a safe transport container, much to everyone’s relief.
A member of the Wildlife SOS rescue team, Hatam, who responded to the call said, “The lizard was quite large, and felt cornered and threatened.

As a result it was reacting aggressively, making it difficult but absolutely essential for us to get the situation under control quickly. Luckily, the rescue went off smoothly, and the monitor lizard was rescued safely.”’
Kartick Satyanarayan, Co-founder of Wildlife SOS, said, “Monitor lizards often strike fear in people’s minds as they are misunderstood and often misrepresented as being venomous. In such situations, it is extremely important to keep both the safety of the bystanders as well as that of the animal as the top priority.” The monitor lizard is currently under observation, and once deemed fit will be released back to its natural habitat.
