“It was great to take part in this year’s contests; in particular, I liked the relay tasks. Each contest required us to provide help to people, to take care of them. On one hand, we were all competitors here, on the other hand, the whole event has been held in a very friendly atmosphere where everyone strived to support each other,” said the team member from the Republic of Karakalpakstan, Kurbonay Jienbaeva.
14 teams representing Tashkent, Karakalpakstan and all other regions stood in front of the goal to pass five stages of the contests. Team “Shijoat” (Courage) representing the Bukhara region won the contest, Team “Kimyogar” (Chemist) representing the Tashkent region became the second, and Team “Fidokor” (Devoted) representing Tashkent city clinched the third place.
“It is the second time for me to participate in the contest and I am very pleased to have this opportunity because here you instil such qualities as humanity, care and consideration for others. Moreover, we gain skills inherent to MES rescuers. We have prepared for six months, won the district’s contest and then the regional stage, and, today, hometown walls helped us to win the final. I would definitely like to commit myself to this profession,” said the leader of the winning team Akmal Tursunov.
Emotions and the will to win in the contests went literally beyond the scale: young fellows have been stumbling and falling, but, nevertheless, jumping up and rushing to the next challenges. Thunder of applauses and friendly outbursts of supporters sounded out with every next score pointed, spectators have been actively encouraging the participants all the way through three days of contests. It should be specially noted that the safety of participants was carefully ensured by MES representatives.
“The ”Young rescuers” Contest is our pride. As a rule, kids gifted both physically and intellectually take part in this contest. The major objective of a psychologist, in the course of such events, is to provide moral support to boys and girls so that they could be able to face both victory and defeat with dignity. Ultimately, the bottom line is the spirit of cohesion, team unity, and feeling of reliable friendship support. Now and then, it was necessary to communicate with supporters, participants’ relatives and closed ones who hardly dealt with their emotions. We sought to assist to everyone and stayed concerned for the kids,” said the leading specialist of the MES Department of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Irina Eliseeva.
The Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Uzbekistan, The Ministry of Higher and Secondary-Specialized Education of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Public Youth Movement “Kamolot” acted as the organizers of the contests. Financial support was provided by the UNDP in Uzbekistan and the DIPECHO IX of the Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations.
“The objective of this contest was the formation of a healthy lifestyle among our youth, introduction to civil protection participation, and training of the right behaviour during emergencies. It was a challenging task to determine the best team as all young people prepared with a great responsibility to get into the final and no one was willing to lose. In addition to the contests, boys and girls got a great opportunity to learn the history of Bukhara and see with their own eyes famous architectural monuments of our ancient city,” said active member of Public Youth Movement “Kamolot” of the Bukhara Regional Council, Muhammadjon Komiljonov.
