Ravi Shastri, who was furious after being turned down by the BCCI's cricket advisory committee, as head coach, has stepped down as media representative of the ICC Cricket Committee, which is headed by newly-elected India coach Anil Kumble.

The CAC comprising Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman, instead selected their former teammate and captain Kumble. Shastri said he was disappointed at missing out on the coveted job as he had worked hard with the Indian team for 18 months. Shastri had also torn into Ganguly and revealed that he had left the interview to attend a Cricket Association of Bengal meeting, where he is the president. (Also read: Shastri-Ganguly rift horrible news for Indian cricket)

In an exclusive interview with India Today, Shastri said Ganguly was disrespectful by remaining absent for his presentation and advised the former opener and captain to be present in future BCCI meetings.

Ganguly lashed back and said Shastri should have been physically present for the interview instead of holidaying in Bangkok. Ganguly also said Shastri was living in a fool's world if he thought Ganguly was behind him (Shastri) not becoming coach.

Meanwhile, reports suggest Shastri was planning to leave the Cricket Committee for a while now and had informed former BCCI boss Shashank Manohar of his wish.

"I have already submitted my resignation. There are personal commitments and I have been there for six years," Shastri told PTI today without further elaborating anything.

The official reason is his busy media commitments as commentator, TV expert and columnist, but there is intense speculation that the former all-rounder may have resigned as he is yet to come to terms with rejection that led to a widely publicised spat with Ganguly.

"Just like Sourav, Ravi is also an emotional man at one level. He is yet to come to terms with the rejection. Since he became a media representative as a BCCI nominee, probably, he is not willing to continue in that post. Also with Kumble expressing his opinion to continue as chairman, it might just be uncomfortable for both of them to sit in a meeting," a BCCI source told PTI today.
