Elizabeth, New Jersey (PRWEB) July 01, 2016

Hamilton's remarkable American journey began in 1772 when he arrived in Elizabethtown to pursue his formal education at the Academy of Elizabethtown, on the very spot where The Snyder Academy of Elizabeth, NJ stands today. The Elizabeth "Young Immigrant Hamilton Tour" explores historic sites associated with Alexander Hamilton's time in the Elizabethtown, New Jersey area. The events in Elizabeth are designed to give the public a deeper understanding of Alexander Hamilton, from his formative teen years as an immigrant in Elizabeth to his adult life as a military hero, architect of our financial system, influential writer and thinker and George Washington's advisor and confidant for 22 years. Part of the annual CelebrateHAMILTON program held by the Alexander Hamilton Awareness (AHA) Society, the Elizabeth programs will include tours on July 7 at Boxwood Hall and Liberty Hall Museum, which Hamilton visited frequently during his time at The Academy of Elizabethtown. At Liberty Hall Museum, new discoveries about Alexander Hamilton will be unveiled to the public for the very first time.

A series of special events are planned throughout the day on July 8 at The Snyder Academy. Programs about Hamilton's life and legacy will be offered in both English and Spanish. Historian Michael E. Newton will talk about Hamilton's formative years in Elizabethtown and sign copies of his book, Alexander Hamilton: The Formative Years. AHA President Rand Scholet will present a talk entitled, Alexander Hamilton: Washington's Indispensable Partner. Elizabeth native Jon Rua, a singer, actor, dancer, and choreographer who plays Charles Lee and understudies for Alexander Hamilton in the Broadway hit 'Hamilton" will speak about his life as an artist and how Hamilton's life has inspired him. The day will conclude with a staged reading of the play At Liberty Hall, which features a teenage Hamilton and a recent immigrant in Elizabeth today, talking to each other across the centuries about their experiences as immigrants.

"With the popularity of the true-to-history Broadway hit Hamilton, people are eager to learn more about Alexander Hamilton – and Union County is a great place to start," said Freeholder Chairman Bruce H. Bergen. "The Freeholder Board is proud to sponsor the CelebrateHAMILTON 2016 event honoring the incredible life and legacy of Alexander Hamilton. From Hamilton's connections to Union County and our rich history, to hearing from Jon Rua, a Union County native and Broadway actor featured in the ensemble of the hit musical Hamilton, this event provides a truly unique opportunity for residents of all ages to learn more about one of America's most influential founding fathers." Additional sponsors for CelebrateHAMILTON in Elizabeth include Elizabethtown Gas and PSE&G.
