Bolt complains about long delays in 100m semi-finals

By Kayon Raynor

Usain Bolt, who is chasing a third straight Olympic sprint double, negotiated lengthy delays and a false start before easily winning his quarter-final round of the 100m in 10.15 seconds on Thursday’s opening day of the JAAA Supreme Ventures National Senior Championships at the National Stadium.

Although sluggish from the blocks on the second time of asking, Bolt separated himself from the field after 40 meters before cruising across line with the day’s joint second fastest time.

The six-time Olympic gold medallist was visibly upset at the amount of time he had to wait before getting to run.

"It's just the whole system which bothers me, you know I was out there too long," an upset Bolt told RJR Sports after warming down and walking back to the Stadium East track.

"They (organisers) just sent everybody out and a whole lot of false starts and I was in the last heat and I kind of got cold so I didn't feel as fluent as I wanted to and that was what I was really annoyed about," he added, noting he will be looking to fix his first 30 meters going forward to Friday's semi-finals and finals.

"If I can get through that then I'll be fine," the 11 time World Championship gold medallist reasoned. The fastest qualifier was Nickel Ashmeade who win heat three of four with 10.07 secs.

Other big contenders Yohan Blake and Kemah Bailey-Cole 10.26 each, as well as Asafa Powell 10.17 also made progress.
