Gandhinagar: Gujarat education minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama and ministers of state Vasuben Trivedi and Nanubhai Vanani, on Thursday, called on Union HRD minister Smriti Irani at New Delhi. The Gujarat ministers requested Irani to release Rs 584.63 crore Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) funds to Gujarat for the year 2015-16 and resolve other long-pending education-related issues of the state.

The three Gujarat ministers had gone to Delhi to attend the function at Vigyan Bhavan in Delhi where Irani launched the Teacher Education Portal.
It may be noted that Trivedi is minister of state, women and child welfare as well as higher and technical education, while Vanani is minister of state, sports, youth cultural activities, water resources and education (primary, secondary and adult).
During discussions with Irani, Chudasama informed the Union HRD minister that the Gujarat government had, in-principle, given approval to allotment of land for setting up of Central University of Gujarat at Kundhela in Dabhoi taluka of Vadodara district.
Certain modification in funding norms for SSA and Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA); sharing of the new education policy draft with the state governments; uniformity in approvals by AICTE and other topics were also discussed.
