Mysuru palace reopens

July 01, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:47 am IST - MYSURU:

After closing its doors to outsiders for six straight days, Amba Vilas Palace was reopened on Thursday.

The iconic palacewas kept out of bounds for the public and tourists in view of the wedding of Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar and Trishika Kumari, which was held on Monday.

It was first time in years the palace was closed for visitors for so long. The State government had given the royal family special permission to close the palace for the wedding.

Venkatesh, director in-charge, Mysuru Palace Board, said the palace was reopened to tourists at the usual time on Thursday.

Usually, the palace gets about 10,000 visitors every day. But the turnout on Thursday was a lot lower, possibly because of the rain and the long closure, he said. He added that the footfall is expected to pick up in a day or two once news of the reopening spreads.
