: M.B. Rajesh, MP, on Thursday inaugurated the first in a series of anganwadi buildings constructed for tribal children and their mothers at Anaikatty, near Coimbatore. The model anganwadi, built by the Karl Kubel Institute for Development Education close to the Ommala tribal settlement, near Agali, has all necessary facilities.
It has spacious classrooms, activity rooms, hygienic kitchen, toys, colourful walls and water purifiers. Rainwater harvesting facility has been constructed at a cost of Rs.8.5 lakh. The agency is now planning to construct 13 more model anganwadis in the region replacing the aged buildings. Nutritious meals will be provided at the anganwadis.
Institute manager N. Selvaraj said digitisation of the functioning of all anganwadis in Attappady is under progress. The agency gets financial assistance from philanthropists in Germany for ensuring educational empowerment of the poor.
