Bury manager David Flitcroft admits he has Rangers manager Mark Warburton to thank after securing the signing of released Ibrox striker Nicky Clark.

Clark, who scored 23 goals in three seasons in Govan, signed a two-year deal with the English League One side on Sunday after Warburton decided not to renew the marksman’s deal.

Despite freeing the 25-year-old, the Rangers manager spoke glowingly of Clark to friend Flitcroft.

nickyclarkFlitcroft, speaking to the official Bury website, said: “I’ve been working on my UEFA Pro Licence and, for me, it’s about making contacts from that.

“I’ve been lucky enough to do that at St George’s Park and Mark Warburton at Rangers has become a very good friend, and we are going up to Rangers to see him and spend some time with him as the season develops.

“Mark kept telling me about Nicky, his work rate and his work ethic. Even though he wasn’t in and around the team, he still had that work ethic and that mentality to want to work.

“We had clips of him sent to us and you can just see that the kid loves scoring goals.

“He’s scored goals in front of 40 to 50 thousand, which is a pressure in itself. To score goals, playing for Glasgow Rangers, you have to have that special talent.”

Flitcroft added: “Nicky Clark set Twitter alight at the weekend and I believe Bury Football Club were trending in Glasgow for a while.”
