BEd colleges can appoint MEd degree holders as asst profs: CRSU

Chaudhary Ranbir Singh University (CRSU), Jind, has allowed BEd colleges being run under the self-financial scheme (SFS) to appoint MEd degree holders with at least 55 per cent marks as assistant professor if they don’t find any NET qualified candidate. At present, 524 such colleges are being run in the state and most of them have been facing shortage of teaching staff due to non-availability of PhD/NET qualified candidates. As per NCTE guidelines, 15 assistant professors are required for a BEd college having 100 seats, say sources.

“As per NCTE rules, MEd degree holders can be recruited in BEd colleges if NET qualifiers are not available, but the state universities had imposed an additional essential condition of NET for assistant professor leading to shortage of teaching staff,” said Ramesh Rohila, convener, Jhajjar Self-Financing BEd Colleges’ Association.

He said since the number of NET qualifiers was lesser than the number of posts of assistant professor in education colleges, the college management had to face problem in arranging teachers. This time, it would be easier for the colleges to resolve the issue of teachers’ shortage by recruiting MEd degree holders,” Rohila said.

Vice Chancellor Ranjit Singh said the BEd colleges had been asked to follow the NCTE rules for the appointment of assistant professors.

“More than 60 BEd colleges had lodged separate complaints with me about additional qualification of NET/PhD imposed by certain universities for assistant professor. They also demanded to execute the NCTE guidelines without additional condition, so that every college could recruit MEd degree holders in case of non-availability of NET qualifiers,” he maintained.

The VC said since the NCTE had been a statutory body to set the qualifications for teachers in education colleges, CRSU decided to follow its rules for the appointment of teachers. However, the colleges had been asked to give preference to NET qualifiers.

Affiliating BEd colleges with Jind varsity opposed

Kurukshetra: Raj Kumar Saini, BJP MP from Kurukshetra, has opposed the move of the state government to affiliate all BEd colleges with Chaudhary Ranbir Singh University (CRSU), Jind.

Saini told The Tribune today that he met Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar with other BJP MLAs in the regard.

He said assigning the supervision of 524 colleges across the state to the CRSU was illogical. He demanded to restore the affiliation of BEd colleges to the universities in their vicinity.

“Kurukshetra University is Haryana’s oldest institute and it has a good reputation. Whereas, the CSRU is being run by ad-hoc staff with no experience,” said the MP.

“The decision will not only affect the economical support of the state universities, will also deteriorate the standard of education,” said Saini.

Roshan Lal Gupta, senior Vice-president, Association of Self-financing Colleges of Haryana, said students would face difficulty in reaching Jind from far-off places such as Panchkula, Narnaul, and Gurgaon.
