A BART train ran over a smoldering cardboard box during Wednesday morning commute, causing delays as personnel worked to dissipate smoke rising under the train, officials said.

The incident occurred just before 9 a.m. near the Glen Park BART Station, said Taylor Huckaby, a spokesman for the transit agency. Trains were back on schedule after a 20-minute delay, he said.

It wasn’t known how the box started smoking or ended up on the tracks. Officials turned on the ventilation system to remove the smoke, said BART spokeswoman Alicia Trost.
