Tehri Dam oustees await funds for house construction

Dobra Chanti Pul Banao Sangarsh Samiti chief coordinator Rajeshwar Painuli has accused the district Rehabilitation Directorate of showing insensitive attitude towards the Tehri Dam oustees who are been still waiting for compensation.

Painuli said villagers of Tiwad Gaon in the Thauldhar block had been allotted land at a new site, but they were yet to receive funds for house construction. They were living under constant fear of land subsidence and if they were not shifted soon, they could face a tragedy this monsoon.

Painuli said the villagers had also presented a memorandum to the Tehri District Magistrate, demanding immediate release of funds so that they could begin the work of constructing a house for themselves before the area subsided into the Tehri Lake.

Painuli said the government had failed to resolve the issues of Tehri Dam oustees, which was really unfortunate. He assured the villagers that he would support their agitation in the future. — TNS
