Ten robbers to die for double murder
A Rangpur court yesterday sentenced 10 robbers to death in a case filed for killing a truck driver and a van-puller in 2006 in Badarganj upazila of Rangpur.
At the same time, the convicts were given life-term imprisonment for snatching the driver's rice-laden truck.
Additional District and Session Judge Court-2 of Abu Zafar Md Quamruzzaman gave the verdict in the two cases – one for the murder and the other for snatching.
The convicts are Abdul Basar, Chandu Mridha, Sobhan Sikdar, Shahid, Ahid, Nazrul Islam Sumon of Patuakhali, Jashim of Barguna, Manik of Khagrachhari, Shahid and Babul of Rangpur.
According to the prosecution, the robbers with an empty truck waylaid trucker Poresh Chandra, of Panchagarh, on Rangpur-Dinajpur highway in Taraganj upazila while he was heading to Manikganj on March 28.
Some of the robbers fled with the rice-laden truck while others took Poresh in Badarganj and strangled him to death and beat his helper the next day.
