Kanhaiya vows fight for end to social inequality

Begusarai: Five months after courting controversy on the JNU campus for his alleged renting of anti-national slogans, JNU students' union president Kanhaiya Kumar visited his home district for the first time on Thursday to address a rally on 'Shiksha bachao desh bachao' organised by the local unit of AISF.
Addressing a modest crowd which included students, activists of Left parties and common people, Kanhaiya said he is struggling to eradicate social inequality in the country, especially in the education sector.

His speech largely centred around PM Narendra Modi and the RSS for their being anti-poor and elitist in the approach towards general problems of the country.
"The government has the responsibility to ensure access to quality education for all. The present regime does not believe in providing equal opportunity to students from weaker, oppressed and Sschedule Castes as evident in the Hyderabad Central University suicide case of Rohit Vemula," he alleged adding, "As president of the students' union of one of the most prestigious universities of the country, I have taken up the responsibility of raising the issue and it is for this reason the BJP and the RSS are targetting me and dubbing me as anti-national."

Describing the Centre's bid for the country to gain entry into the NSG or striking defence deals as non-issues, Kanhaiya claimed the real issues that affect common men are employment, quality education and poverty eradication.
Accusing RSS for instigating communal passion, he left it to the audience to decide whether he or saffron originations like the RSS was anti-national. He also defended his slogan chanting on the JNU campus.
"I only raised those slogans seeking 'azadi' from agents of exploitation, inequality and fascism, which the present government represents," said Kanhaiya.
