Gambhir, Manjrekar hit out at Ravi Shastri

Former India skipper Bishan Singh Bedi though supported Shastri.

Mumbai: Former Team India Director Ravi Shastri took a dig at BCCI Advisory Committee member Sourav Ganguly on Tuesday saying he was “disrespectful” of the candidate he was interviewing.

On Wednesday, former India cricketer-turned commentator Sanjay Manjrekar, surprisingly, took Ganguly’s side while Bishan Singh Bedi backed Shastri.

“More than Sourav, I think Ravi is miffed with the rejection. It's a new experience for him. BCCI have made the better choice as coach,” Manjrekar tweeted.

However, former India skipper Bishan Singh Bedi supported Shastri in what has become a major controversy.

Meanwhile, veteran India discard Gautam Gambhir spoke to ABP News and was also critical of Shastri's comments. Gambhir's comments were in sync with Manjrekar's view.

"Ravi Shastri's comments only shows his desperation. Kumble is the best choice, he is hard working person," Gambhir told ABP News.

Gambhir had earlier lauded Kumble's appointment as Team India head coach.

Shastri accused Ganguly for not being present during his turn for the interview last week. Though he said it had “nothing to do with Sourav,” he was clearly unhappy with the CAB president.

Anil Kumble, chosen as the head coach of Team India, thanked Shastri for his services but maintained that it is not about coaches, a team is about players.

However, India cricketer Rohit Sharma acknowledged Shastri’s service to Team India. He said what the man did was brilliant but having Kumble on board is inspiring.

Shastri believed that his candidature got canned after Ganguly left the room during his presentation.
