Nearly all of the 57 parliamentarians newly elected to the Rajya Sabha are crorepatis with Praful Patel, Kapil Sibal and Satish Chandra Misra topping the charts.

As many as 96 per cent or 55 are crorepatis and 13 have criminal cases against them according to an analysis by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR). NCP's Praful Patel has assets worth Rs 252 crore, followed by Kapil Sibal (Rs 212 crore) and BSP's Satish Chandra Misra (Rs 193 crore). The average assets value of the newly elected MPs is Rs 35.84 crore, it said.

Among MPs who have seen the highest increase in wealth are Anil Dave (BJP) whose assets increased by 2,111 per cent from Rs 2.75 lakh to Rs 60.97 lakh . He is followed by Sanjay Raut (Shiv Sena) whose assets increased by 841 per cent from Rs 1.51 crore to Rs 14.22 crore and Misra's increased by 698 per cent from Rs 24.18 crore to Rs 193 crore.

"Thirteen have declared criminal cases against themselves and seven have declared serious criminal cases, including cases related to attempt to murder, cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property, theft," the study noted.

Three from BJP, two from SP and one each from Congress, BJD, BSP, RJD, DMK, Shiv Sena, YSRCP have declared criminal cases against themselves in affidavits. Of the 11 MPs from UP, four have criminal cases against them, while two of the five MPs from Bihar, one of six from Maharashtra, one of six from Tamil Nadu, one of four from Karnataka, one of four MPs from Andhra Pradesh, one of three MPs from Madhya Pradesh, one of three MPs from Odisha and one of two MPs from Haryana have declared criminal cases against them.

MPs with lowest assets include BJP's Anil Madhav Dave (Rs 60 lakh) and Ram Kumar (Rs 86 lakh). Besides, 19 MPs have declared liabilities of Rs 1 crore and above. Of the 57 newly elected MPs, 17 represent BJP, nine are from Congress, seven from SP, four from AIADMK and three from BJD. There are two each from JD(U), RJD, DMK, BSP and TDP while the parties SAD, NCP, SHS and YSRCP have one representative each. There is also an independent MP.
