Fake anti-piracy officer collects Rs 2L as bribe

A complaint alleging extortion of Rs 2 lakh was lodged at Vastrapur police station on Tuesday against a hitherto still unidentified police sub-inspector and four private persons, one of whom allegedly identifed himself as Pinakin Patel, head of the Gujarat Anti-Piracy Squad.

Ahmedabad: A complaint alleging extortion of Rs 2 lakh was lodged at Vastrapur police station on Tuesday against a hitherto still unidentified police sub-inspector and four private persons, one of whom allegedly identifed himself as Pinakin Patel, head of the Gujarat Anti-Piracy Squad. The complaint was filed after the complainant realized that Patel was a fraud and that there is no such department as Gujarat Anti-Piracy Squad.

Inspector of Vastrapur police station AD Parmar said that the complainant Ishani Shah, 34, resident of Samprat-2 in Bodakdev, had mentioned, besides Pinakin Patel, a sub-inspector named Chavda.
"We are verifying the facts of the complaint. Action will be taken against the accused, including the sub-inspector, when the preliminary investigation is complete," said inspector AD Parmar of Vastrapur police station. Shah runs a business establishment named, Face Line Soda Creative, near Mahaveernagar in Bodakdev.
A police officer said that on Tuesday, five people, including a sub-inspector in uniform, came to the complainant's office. "A person accompanying the sub-inspector identified himself as Pinakin Patel, head of the Gujarat Anti-Piracy Squad, and asked the office staff to let them check their computers for pirated fonts," said the police officer.
