Transfers are routine, says CM Pinarayi Vijayan

Mr. Vijayan said that the ongoing transfers were only routine.

Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Wednesday denied the Opposition allegation that government employees were being transferred flouting norms and without humane considerations to settle political scores. He, however, assured the Opposition that any specific complaints would be looked into.

Replying to the notice for an adjournment motion given by Mr P.T. Thomas of the Congress, Mr. Vijayan said that the ongoing transfers were only routine. Many promotions, retirements and appointments of government employees to the personal staff of ministers necessitated the shifting of officials.

“From February to May, 52 officials in government secretariat alone retired from service. As many as 30 officials in the rank of under-secretary and above joined the personal staff of ministers. Many officials who were serving in the ministers' personal staff in the previous UDF government needed to be given fresh postings. A transfer or promotion of one special secretary would necessitate shifting of officials in seven related posts, which eventually results in shifting of 14 officials,” CM said.
