Team Yamaha looks well on paper to clinch the 2016 18’ Skiff Mark Foy World Championship long race to Malamala Island today.

The New Zealand-based Skiff team currently leads with eight points after having won three out of the six races on Monday and Tuesday.

Team Thurlow Fisher Lawyers is in second with 10 points and Smeg third with 21 while C-Tech and Harken in fourth and fifth position.

Team Yamaha Skipper David McDiarmid said he was overwhelmed with the racing condition experienced since Monday.

“I have been sailing for the last six years in the 18 foot Skiffs and this most beautiful place I have sailed in,” he said.

“This is a very important regatta for us this year which we are currently leading in the Mark Foy World Champions and also the Triple Crown.”

The trio have been sailing together since last year.

“We are leading with one point over Thurlow Fisher Lawyers (Australia) who have won two races so there is tough competition out there between us,” he added.

Peroni skipper Nick Daly enjoyed the races despite the results were not in their favour.

“I love the race, easily one of the best regattas,” he said.

Port Denarau managing director Nigel Skeggs said the excitement for the long races have been brewing up.

“There will be grand race out there in Nadi Bay, and the teams should be expecting good competition out there,” he said.
