Sweeney death case: UK police find evidence of ‘foul play’
Mapusa: The case pertaining to UK national Denyse Sweeney, a charity worker who was mysteriously found dead in Anjuna in 2010, took a new turn, when on July 27, a UK police investigation found that there is evidence of alleged foul play. Her family members in Derbyshire, UK, say that their fears of her being murdered in Goa have come true as a home office pathologist, on behalf of Derbyshire police, has found that her death was caused by “a blow to the back of her skull”.

The case of Sweeney, who collapsed and died at a nightclub at Anjuna on April 16, 2010, was referred to the CBI in 2012. After she collapsed, she was rushed to a private hospital where she died the same day.
Though the police had ruled out foul play and had registered it as a case of drug overdose, the matter was reopened because of doubts raised by Sweeney’s sisters Maureen and Marion, who claimed their sister was murdered.
The family members have said that the revelations of the pathologist was a major breakthrough for them in seeking justice for Sweeney. A UK newspaper reported that Derbyshire police have said they will now be sending the report to the Indian authorities.
