Power department staffers threaten strike on July 4

Chandigarh: Electricity employees of Chandigarh under the banner of UT Powermen Union, Chandigarh, will hold a protest on July 4 before the electricity office in Sector 17. The dharna will be held against the proposal of the UT administration to corporatize the running of the department for which a tender is being opened on July 4 to appoint a consultant.
In this connection, the union on Wednesday held gate meetings before the offices in sectors 18, 20 and 35.
The leaders strongly criticized the authorities for their proposal and blamed that instead of putting efforts to fill up vacant posts and procurement of material, safety devices to the workmen and completion of incomplete projects, the authorities were trying to divert the issues. They further alleged crores of rupees had been wasted for the consultant on each and every issues in the department and demanded a high-level inquiry.
Gopal Datt Joshi, general secretary, Sat Pal, president, Vijay Singh, senior vice president, Desh Raj, Amrik Singh, Pardeep Sharma, Kashmir Singh, Raj Pal and other leaders of the union addressed the gate meeting.
