Man kills self over property dispute

AMRITSAR: Perturbed over a property dispute with his brother, a man committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance in Ajnala.

Perturbed over a property dispute with his brother, a man committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance in Ajnala. The deceased was identified as Hardeep Singh. Following the complaint of his wife, Harmeet Kaur, the Ajnala police have booked his brother, Jagjit Singh, on charges of abetment to suicide. No arrest has been made so far.

Harmeet Kaur stated to the police that Hardeep had a dispute with his brother over division of property. She alleged that Jagjit was not giving him his share of land from the ancestral property. This had became a bone of contention between the two families.

Mukhtar Singh, SHO, Ajnala police station, said perturbed over this, Hardeep took the extreme step of ending his life. Before taking the extreme step, he told his wife about the reason behind this. He was rushed to a hospital where he succumbed. The body was later sent for a post-mortem examination while a case under Section 306, IPC, has been registered against the deceased’s brother, Jagjit Singh.
