A 59-year-old Madagascar diplomat was found dead in his rented accommodation in Chattarpur Enclave Phase II on Tuesday.

The deceased, Rabenja Holliba, was last contacted by his office colleague on Monday afternoon over the phone and Holliba had informed his office that he was not feeling well. He said he would resume coming to office from Monday. But when didn’t show up at work even on Tuesday, an embassy official visited his house Tuesday evening and found it locked from the inside. He had also not been answering any phone calls.

“To clear his suspicions, the embassy official informed other senior officials and the Madagascar ambassador at the embassy. Thereafter, a PCR call was made. The police arrived and entered the house. The diplomat’s body was found on the second floor, on a bed in a room,” said a senior police official.

In a preliminary report, no injury marks were found on the deceased’s body nor was forced entry to the house established. Embassy officials said that they had a party at Rabenja Holliba’s house in Chattarpur on Sunday evening. Everything was normal and they all had left after the party. On Monday he called up the embassy and said he would come to office as he was not feeling well. Thereafter, there was no news of the diplomat. He was the second-in-command at the embassy.

“We have registered a case under Section 174 (suspicious death) of the CrPC. The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination. A probe has been ordered into the case,” said a senior police official.

The police suspects the diplomat may have died due to a cardiac arrest but this can only be confirmed by the post-mortem examination report, said the police.
