John Wes Townley ($15,000) and Spencer Gallagher ($12,500) fined for fighting

NASCAR fined John Wes Townley $15,000 and Spencer Gallagher $12,500 for their fight during the Camping World Truck Series race Saturday at Gateway Motorsports Park.

The pair had been involved in a pair of wrecks during the race. After the second one, Townley got out of his truck and charged at Gallagher. The two wrestled for a bit and Townley was able to punch Gallagher as Gallagher tried to hold him off.

The highlight for the fight, in part because it was more like some hockey fights where the combatants wrestle as much as they throw punches, made national news.

Gallagher issued an apology Monday, stating that the initial accident was not intentional and his team deserved to be treated with more respect than it did at the race. The second wreck was possibly retaliation by Townley, but NASCAR did not issue any fines for the racing incidents. Both drivers were put on probation for the rest of the season.

"I am ashamed that I was part of an incident that has allowed so many to view what we do in a negative light," Gallagher said.

Both drivers were entered in the NASCAR Xfinity Series race Friday at Daytona International Speedway. Townley's family-owned team withdrew Wednesday morning.
