Glendale police link Compton gang members, woman to home burglaries in Glendale and Burbank

Using cellphone data, Craigslist and “really, really good detective work,” Glendale police linked two Compton gang members, along with one’s girlfriend, to a series of home break-ins throughout Los Angeles County, including two in Burbank and two in Glendale, authorities said.

When a home burglary was reported in Glendale on April 25, police collected surveillance footage from a neighbor, which showed a black car fleeing the scene.

While the license plate was blurry, the Cadillac CTS had unique rims and a sticker with the number “88” on a window, said Glendale Police Sgt. Robert William.

Glendale Police Det. Travis Goodreau took the video to a crime analyst to see if that car was tied to any other break-ins in Glendale. It wasn’t.

But the analyst decided to put together a “be on the lookout” bulletin with the car information, so he scanned Craigslist photos to narrow down the model.

There, he found a car dealer’s advertisement for a Cadillac CTS with the same unique rims. On a window, there was an “88” sticker, representing the car’s number on the lot.

Meanwhile, on May 10, another residential burglary was reported in the 1500 block of Riverside Drive in Burbank. Surveillance footage of this incident showed a woman knocking on the door of a home. When no one answered, a man showed up and kicked the door open with his foot. The footage also captured a Cadillac CTS.

FOR THE RECORD

June 30, 2:34 p.m.: A previous version of this story stated a residential burglary was reported May 10 in the 200 block of East Mountain in Glendale. While there was a residential burglary reported at the location, surveillance footage was taken from an incident that occurred in the 1500 block of Riverside Drive in Burbank.

When investigators went to the car dealership, they found out the Cadillac had been sold recently to a 21-year-old woman named Christian Combs. Police say she was in front of the Glendale door on May 10.

Listed as a reference on Combs’ purchase paperwork was Tyler Liddell, a 19-year-old documented gang member who police said is her boyfriend.

Police obtained search warrants for their phone records and discovered that the pair, along with an 18-year-old reputed gang member named Jalen Tyrell Hosley, were allegedly in the area of multiple residential burglaries reported in Los Angeles County in April and May.

Liddell was charged this month with 21 counts of burglary, while Combs was charged with 20 counts, and Hosley with five. They’ve all pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Of the 21 residential burglaries, two were in Burbank — in the 1500 block of Riverside Drive and the 800 block of South Mariposa Street — four were in Pasadena, one was in Arcadia and seven were in Los Angeles.

William said the trio took jewelry, cash, guns and safes — “whatever they can get that was valuable” — for the benefit of their gang. None of the stolen property was recovered.
