One dead, three injured as SUV rams stationary bus on Noida expressway

The incident took place around 12 pm when Somveer, Vinod, Jayant and Naveen, all residents of Badarpur in Delhi, were on their way to Bulandshahr.

Somveer, 40, was driving the vehicle and Vinod, Jayant and Naveen, all in their 30s, were the other occupants of the car.

“Passersby informed the police about the incident and rescued the victims from the mangled car. A PCR van took the victims to the nearby hospital where Somveer, who was driving the vehicle, was declared dead on arrival. The other occupants of the car are admitted to the hospital. The doctors said their condition is stable,” said Abhishek Yadav, superintendent of police (rural), Gautam Budh Nagar. Police said Vinod, who was sitting next to Somveer, was seriously injured.

Police said the impact of the crash was such that four passengers of the bus, who were sitting in the rearmost seat, was thrown out of their seats and sustained minor injuries.

“The bus had stopped to pick and drop passengers near Sector 144. This is a regular stop for buses. The speeding car hit us from behind and a few passengers were injured in the impact,” said Ambuj Kumar, conductor of the UP roadways bus.

The bus was plying on the route of Sector 37-Pari Chowk and was carrying over 50 passengers at the time of the incident.

“We have informed the family of the deceased. So far, we have not received any complaint against anyone in this case. The body was sent for a postmortem examination, the reports of which are awaited,” said Praveen Kumar, in charge, Surajpur police station.
