The Baltic Exchange Tuesday announced that its agreement with Singapore Exchange (SGX) for exclusive talks over an offer for the Baltic Exchange has been extended to August 31, 2016 from June 30.

The agreement, which was signed on May 25, is said to have been intended to allow the Baltic Exchange negotiate with SGX and to consult with stakeholders.

"Over the past weeks the Baltic Exchange and SGX have together met with Baltic Exchange shareholders, members and panellists as well as the wider stakeholder community to discuss the potential transaction and have made good progress in consultations," explained the Baltic Exchange.

The extended period of exclusive talks will enable these discussions to continue, says the Baltic Exchange.
