Kashmir imports 6 cr day-old-chicks; submits Rs 2.80 cr plan to Centre

Srinagar, Jun 29 (UNI) About six crore day-old chicks are being imported annually from different states, particularly northern, to Kashmir valley, where authorities are gearing up to provide sufficient poultry to people on Eid-ul-Fitr.
Officials said here today that six crore day-old-chicks are being imported per anum which are being kept in hatcheries at Hariparbat in Srinagar and Mattan in south Kashmir district of Anantnag.
They said that Hariparbat Hatchery is best for chick breeding with the intake capacity of 25,000 chicks. However, only 2,300 chicks are reared at the Hatchery at present.
