KOCHI: Vehicles transporting drinking water in the city have come under the regional transport office's (RTO) scanner for installing tanks beyond the permitted size.
RTO officials in the district said that there was an urgent need to regulate these vehicles as water suppliers used unusually large tanks to transport water, hindering the movement of other vehicles and adding to commuter woes.

"They pose a serious threat to the safety of people as these tanks make it difficult for the driver to control the vehicle," said RTO officer K M Shaji.
Suppliers have been told to replace tanks and adhere to the prescribed standards over the next 30 days.
