Faizabad: The district administration, taking serious note of riots or revolts in different jails of the state in the past, has launched a reform programme last month. Subsequently, prisoners in Faizabad central jail would be provided facilities and would be safeguarded from exploitation that leads to revolt.
To begin with, 12 prisoners would be released before time.
These include two women above 60 years of age and the men are all above 70 years of age.
Officials said 17 more prisoners of the same age group will be added to the list. The administration has also decided to help financially weak prisoners with marriage of their daughters by supporting them with government aid.
Faizabad district magistrate Kinjal Singh said she would arrange the marriage grant soon.
District probation officer R B Vishwakarma said that in all, 31 prisoners have been handpicked to be released before the end of their sentence.
Chief medical officer of Faizabad has been made the nodal officer for regular health check-ups and treatment of ailing prisoners. A team of doctors and pathologists has been deputed for regular visits to the jail, said the district magistrate.
In another initiative, Aadhaar cards would be issued to prisoners and ten teams have been deputed for the same.
