Sabre International, the agency that hired the Nepali security guards who were killed in a terrorist attack in Afghanistan last week, has agreed to pay Rs3 million to the families of each to the 13 victims in insurance.

The Nepal government has already announced Rs1 million for each bereaved family. Twelve Nepali guards were killed on the spot while the other died during treatment later. Five of the injured Nepalis are receiving care in the Indian capital.

The security company has not announced any compensation for the injured undergoing treatment in New Delhi. The deceased and the injured Nepalis were recruited on behalf of Sabre International and were deployed for security of the Canadian Embassy in Kabul. Despite diplomatic efforts and public pressure, the Canadian government has not announced any

compensation for the victims so far. “The Sabre International has agreed to pay the Rs3 million insured amount as per their contract,” said Bharat Raj Poudyal, spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry.

Acting Nepali Ambassador to Pakistan Tirtha Raj Aryal, who also looks after the Afghan affairs, held talks with officials at the Canadian Embassy in Kabul, officials at the Afghan foreign ministry and Sabre International about compensation for the slain workers.

An official said Sabre International and the Canadian government are required to pay additional amounts to the families as the guards were killed on their way to duty. (PR)
